I’ve been homeschooling for almost five years now, and one of the things I love most is teaching my children subjects that traditional schools might not cover in depth. I’ve taught my kids about the presidential election before, but this year, I wanted something more formal. So, I developed a homeschool presidential election curriculum. Then I thought, why not share it with you all?! As a parent, I want my children to grow up informed and responsible. Understanding how our government works is a huge part of that.

Whether you homeschool or not, our “Introduction to Government and the Election Process” homeschool presidential election curriculum is a fantastic resource for any family. Designed for elementary and middle school-aged children, this five-week program is packed with hands-on activities, engaging discussions, and real-life applications. It makes learning about the election process both fun and educational.

Week 1: Understanding Government and the Presidency

In the first week, your child will dive into the basics of government and the President’s role. They’ll participate in activities like drawing a community and creating a timeline of important Presidents. These activities provide a solid foundation in how our government operates and why the President’s role is crucial.

Week 2: The Election Process

In Week 2, we explore the election process in detail. Kids will learn about political parties, primaries, and the general election. Creative activities like holding a mock primary election and designing campaign posters make these concepts easy to grasp and exciting to explore.

Week 3: Voting and the Electoral College

Voting is a cornerstone of our democracy. In Week 3, your child will understand its importance through activities like filling out a sample ballot and creating a U.S. electoral map. These activities help them see how their future participation matters.

Week 4: Key Figures in Elections

What better way to learn about elections than by studying key figures? This week, children will create biography posters about important individuals like Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. These activities help them understand the roles and contributions of these leaders.

Week 5: Staying Informed and Participating

In the final week, we focus on staying informed and getting involved. Kids will learn how to keep up with current events and discover ways to participate in the political process, even at a young age.
